Reporting from Dunipace Parish Church
Before we went for a visit to our local church, Dunipace Parish, we worked in with our shoulder partners to think of questions we would like to ask the minister. Mrs C then emailed our list of questions so Miss Gallacher could be prepared!
A big thanks to Miss Gallacher for answering our questions and telling us some more information about the church building.
Leave a comment telling us some of the information you found out.

Building an Ancient Egyptian Shaduf
We worked together in teams of 2 or 4 to build an Ancient Egyptian shaduf. A shaduf helped the egyptians to move water from one level to another, it has to be balanced with a weight on the back to make it easier to lift the bucket of water.
One group made big shadufs with bamboo and string, another group made medium sized shadufs with sticks and string and the final group made miniature shadufs with art straws and string. We used clay to make the weights.
We had lots of fun making and testing the shadufs.

Words for said
As part of a writing task, we read an extract from Gorgeous George on the SMARTboard and highlighted all the different ways the author used ‘said’ words. We practised shouting, ranting, muttering, moaning and saying with our eyes popping out of our heads!
Then we worked in teams of three to list as many different words that we could use instead of ‘said’. It was a tricky task, but we managed to get some inspiration from our reading books. Once the timer had finished, person 1 had to stay at the group to share the words and person 2 and 3 had to stray to another group and listen to their words with the hope of finding a new word to take back to the team. One team managed to think of 38 different ways to say ‘said’!

Blindfolded Maths
This week we have been learning about position and movement with Mr Ogg. We went to the hall to practise giving and following directions with a partner. Here’s what we thought:
Ben: It was better than normal maths because I enjoy active things. Working with a partner and listening to them helped me to understand position and movement.
Ainslie: I enjoyed directing my partner through the course. It helped me to understand ½ turn.
Keira: I thought that it was good fun, better than doing work in a jotter. I learned to give directions and follow directions. My partner Chloe gave clear instructions.
Morgan: I found it hard as my partner was mumbling the directions. I did find it fun but difficult.
Kelly: I enjoyed working with my partner, I like working with someone else, it helps me to learn.

A Perfect Pyramid!
There was something strange when we came into class this morning… We found lots of blocks to make a pyramid! It was a tricky task and Alishba said it was just like probem solving!
How do you think we did with our pyramid building?

Easter Hats
As part of a craft activity, P3 made prototype Easter Hats that P1, P2 and P3 would wear at the Easter Service. We then worked with a P1 or P2 buddy to assist them with their Easter Hat. We think everyone made a great job and they certainly looked great as we sang in the Easter Church Service.

Paired Reading
For the last 5 weeks, Primary 3 and Primary 6 have worked together on a Paired Reading project.
The paired reading buddies work together twice a week to develop their reading and listening skills. Buddies start off reading together, but when the P3 feels confident to continue reading on their own, they tap the book and the P6 knows to actively listen to their buddy read. If the P3 gets stuck, the P6 buddy joins in reading again. It’s a great way for P3 to develop their fluency and expression and for P6 to develop their listening and questioning skills.

Author Visit – Stuart Reid
Today we had a visit from local author, Stuart Reid. He talked about the inspirations for his book Gorgeous George and the Giant Geriatric Generator, read some of the story and he answered all our questions about what it is like to be an author. He even had time to sign the books we bought!
What did you enjoy about Stuart’s visit?
